Thought by some to mean “muddy water,” Missouri’s name actually means “town of the large canoes” and is attributable to a Sioux Native American tribe. When it comes to mortgage LE challenges, Missouri is a relatively consistent place.

As is the case with several other states, recording fees are fairly uniform throughout the state. The only variance occurs in St. Louis county, where the fees are different. Regardless of county, the cost of recording fees across Missouri scales up based upon the size of the document, with larger documents drawing higher fees.

Transfer taxes and title insurance🔗

There are no transfer taxes in Missouri. However, there are “Title Service Fees.” These are in addition to the fee for the title insurance policy, and vary from county to county.
